Fresh is one of my all time favorite brands, the only down side is the price but the good news is that the products actually work! I have been reading about this cream for ages now and always wanted to try it out. Usually I'm a fan of Burt's Bees creams, I find that beeswax is amazing and soothing to the skin, and was happy to see it in Crème Ancienne as well. Before I had my own experience with it I was aware what a cult product this has been, needless to say all the hype about it is true. This is probably the most expensive product I have tried after coveted Crème de la Mer, which was great but I like this even better. This crème is made in limited batches so it's not always easy to find but it's worth it. I probably spend most of my money on books so I figured getting a nice cream once in a while is okay.
I'm glad that I got the big jar, price wise it's actually a money saver, hopefully it can last me months but I find myself sneaking some on my hands to keep them soft. Other than this being hand mixed by hand by monks in some romantic monastery the crème itself is quite humble and simple. The texture is very thick, like a balm and you only need a little bit; it also works great as an eye cream! This is ultra hydrating and nourishing, if someone has dry skin or irritation this will soothe it like butter, I was in love with the texture of it from the moment it arrived at my door. When applied it leaves the skin feeling very moist and comfortable, it also makes the face look brighter right away. After using this for a few weeks I am unable to even think about using any other cream ( uh oh ! ) and my complexion has been closer to being flawless than ever before. This makes makeup look wonderful too, almost airbrushed and even thought it's so moisturizing I find my face gets less shiny during the day. This cream is supposed to be anti-wrinkle and anti-aging, I don't have any yet but time will tell if my hard work paid of even a little.
The emollient oils penetrate the skin very well; meadowfoam seed oil is the star of this cream. In fact the whole jar smells lightly of lavender, very cooling and lightly herbal and the waxes prevent moisture loss. I have read about meadowfoam oil and it's highly prized effects, apparently it even provides ultra-violet protection and is extremely stable and doesn't oxidize easily, meaning it doesn't spoil fast.
If I had to pick my ultimate favorite beauty product this would be it, I even carry it around if I do any sleepovers, it just feel that good! I also experience less breakouts, even if they are hormonal. In the past few days the heat wave in NY was extreme but my skin never melted and felt irritated, this cream is very thick but works well even in very tough weather.

| This is a wonderful cream. The product delivers everything it promises. It keeps the skin soft and glowing and removes fine lines. It is quickly absorbed and keeps the face soft overnight. It not only has natural ingredients but it leaves out the toxic ones like the parabens, DEA, petroleum, dyes etc. It also does not clog the pores. It is a far better face cream than Cream de la Mer. |

| I used to use Amore Pacific which is $400.00 per jar. This product is $250.00 and does more for my skin. People I do not know stop and ask me what product I am using on my skin. I highly recommend it. |
good cream for oil acne-prone skin

| My skin is oil and acne-prone but extremely dry. La Mer creme works for friends/family but doesn't work for me. Oil-free lotions are watery and not enough to hydrate my skin, while the oil-based lotions causing breakout and even then the moisture is not long lasting (you wash your face and you start from ground zero again). I tried creme ancienne out of desperation. It's expensive cream but 1oz bottle lasts me 5 to 6 months so that's comforting. I used a little bit of it mixed with another oil-free watery lotion and it works out nicely because this cream texture is very thick so you have to "dilute" it with your fingers before you put it one, otherwise it's very bee-wax texture (therefore you don't use a lot, a little will go a long way). After the first application my skin is very smooth and I noticed my skin is even toned. The moisture stays on my skin thru out the day; and after I wash the skin is soft, velvety and smooth. After that my skin is continued improving. I went back to other lotions but I always come back to this cream so now it's the only cream I use. I use it at night and also during the day (very thin layer for day). It doesn't cause breakout for me. If you have oily and acne prone and no other lotions work for you, you might want to try this one and see. Just like other skincare products, some works for others but not for you. The saving ingredient in this is meadowfoam seed oil instead of mineral oil (la mer has mineral oil) and I think that why my skin likes it. |

put it on ... wait and see..
it actually gets absorbed into the skin.....
adds a beautiful GLOW to the face.....
it has gotten rid of lines caused by dryness
on the legs ( instantly by the way )
that NOTHING else has been able to fix...
worth every penny and lasts a long time.
Hint:
Put a small amount on fingers and exhale on it to make it softer

A great luxury cream which performs as advertised

A great luxury cream which performs as advertised. This cream is wonderfully rich and gives immediate hydration, works great as a primer, smoothes and re-textures the skin, and increases firmness. I love the addition/high quantity of emollient oils and beneficial waxes to tackle free radicals . . . However, the ingredients overall are quite simple, therefore I don't know how justified the price is in that regard. Still its superb, a little goes a long way, and the price can also be justified considering Each jar can take up to 2 days to produce, is made by hand (by Monks no less!) in small batches only, and in limited quantity.
This has worked wonders on my dry skin- I use it on my face, decollate and body during the winter months. I highly recommend this cream to all skin types over age 30.

Not so natural...

This is an exorbitantly overpriced moisturizer that doesn't contain a single organic ingredient to justify the enormous price.
And what about pentylene glycol - did Galen use it, too? I cannot see nuns pouring petrochemicals into the vat with cream, sorry! Just doesn't look right to me.
At least this cream doesn't contain parabens like the rest of Fresh products, so three stars are appropriate. |
Thick, waxy and masklike

I saw so many good reviews on this product -- but I am so disappointed! I have dry "thirsty" skin and this doesn't absorb -- it just sits on my skin feeling sticky all day (or all night). It is so waxy that I have to warm it in my hands to avoid dragging my skin around with it as I try to apply it. If I were trying to buff out my car with this I'd say that it took too much work to rub it into the finish!!
I'll keep it to protect my hands in winter from wind and cold [how pricey for something that Vaseline would do just as well and go on more smoothly as well].
I'd rate it zero stars if I could. |
